DIY Rejuvenating Face Scrubs and Masks

That feeling after you exfoliate your skin is debatably one of the best feelings ever. How do you achieve that smooth skin and healthy glow? It’s as easy as going to your kitchen!

First Things First: Know Your Skin Type

Dry Skin
For all my dry-skinned ladies out there, exfoliation is extremely important for the health of your skin. You need to remove dead cells sitting on the surface of the skin with a more citrusy face scrub or mask because the citric acid in the face scrub or mask will break down the dead skin cell and encourage healthy skin turnover.

Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin, do not overwork your skin. You will want to avoid scrubbing your skin, which can irritate and redden the skin even more. Now is the perfect time to ditch the big-name manufactured products (due to the fragrances and chemicals used to create the solution) for a natural remedy for skin care.

Oily Skin
Women with oily skin can benefit greatly from manually scrubbing their faces. There is typically an extra layer of dead skin because of the oils. Manually scrubbing your face, and then following up with a soothing mask to remove redness, is a great way to rejuvenate your skin.

Normal Skin
People with normal skin are very lucky in this case; they can try just about any means of exfoliation that their hearts desire. With that being said you still don’t want to overwork your skin, so experimenting to find a mask or a scrub that works best for you is key.

Combination Skin
For combination skin, your skin may require a mix of manual scrubbing and chemical exfoliation, like the citrus scrubs and masks. Don’t use both types of exfoliation on the same day because doing so will leave your skin irritated and red. If your skin feels dry after exfoliation, use a moisturizing mask to rehydrate your skin.

Recipes for the Perfect Mask or Scrub

For Dry Skin
  • Oatmeal Yogurt Face Mask
    • 1 tbsp Greek Yogurt
    • 1 tsp Oatmeal
    • 1 tsp Honey
    • Mix yogurt, oatmeal, and honey in a bowl, leave on for 10-15 minutes, rinse with warm water
  • Honey Face Mask
    • Half an Avocado
    • 1 tbsp Honey
    • Mash the avocado and honey together, apply to face and sit for 10 -20 minutes, then rinse off
For Sensitive Skin
  • Oatmeal Honey Face Mask
    • 1 tbsp Oatmeal
    • 1 tsp Honey
    • ½ tsp Water
    • Crush all ingredients together, put a thin layer over the clean skin, leave on for 10 minutes, rinse off
  • Yogurt Face Mask 
    • 2 tsp Yogurt
    • 1 tsp Honey
    • 1 tsp Cocoa Powder
    • Mix ingredients together until you get a smooth paste, apply to clean face for 15-20 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water, apply a moisturizer
For Oily Skin
  • Banana Face Mask
    • 1 Ripe Banana
    • 2 tbsp Honey
    • 1 tsp Lemon or Orange Juice
    • Mashup the banana, then mix the honey (add into the blender for best results), add the juice, apply for 15 minutes, then rinse with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth, then regular moisturizer
  • Yogurt and Lemon Face Scrub
    • 2 tbsp Cornmeal
    • 2tbsp Yogurt
    • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
    • Blend the lemon, yogurt, and cornmeal, gently massage the scrub on your face for 1-2 minutes, leave on for another 5 minutes, remove with warm water, then rinse face with cold water (to help close your pores)
Get-Rid-of-Stubborn-Acne Masks
  • Egg White Face Mask
    • 1 Egg White
    • 1 tsp Fresh Lemon Juice
    • ½ tsp Honey
    • Whisk together the egg white and lemon juice until the mixture becomes frothy, add ½ tsp of honey and stir well, wash your face with warm water first, then apply to face with hands or cotton ball, keep the mask on for 10-15 minutes, when the mixture is completely dry gently scrub off using warm water in a circular motion, pat dry
  • Oatmeal and Coconut Oil Face Mask
    • 3 tbsp Oatmeal
    • ¼ cup Warm Water
    • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
    • Mix oatmeal and warm water in a bowl until you’ve made a paste, add coconut oil and mix well, wash face with warm water, then apply the mixture and let sit for 15 minutes, when time is up massage face for another 2 minutes in a circular motion, rinse off with cool water, pat skin dry
Soften and Rehydrate Your Skin
  • Honey and Cornmeal Scrub
    • ½ tsp Fine Cornmeal
    • 1 tsp Honey
    • A bit of Water
    • Add cornmeal, honey, and water into a bowl and stir/blend them together into a smooth paste, apply the paste on your face and neck in a gentle circular motion, leave on for 1 minute then rinse it out with warm water
  • Cucumber Face Mask
    • ½ Cucumber
    • Milk
    • 1 tbsp Honey
    • 1 tbsp Sugar
    • Puree cucumber with a food processor, add the honey and enough milk to achieve desired consistency you want, mix in the sugar, apply to face in a circular motion, rinse off
Leaves-Your-Skin-Glowing Masks
  • Tomato Honey Face Mask
    • ½ Ripe Tomato
    • 1 tbsp Honey
    • Blend the tomato until you get a smooth puree, stir in honey and mix well, apply the mixture and let sit for 15 minutes, wash off with cold water, pat face dry
  • Coffee and Honey Face Mask
    • 1 tsp Coffee Powder
    • 1 tbsp Honey
    • 1 tbsp Plain Yogurt (optional)
    • Mix all ingredients in a bowl, stir well, apply and leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse face with lukewarm water
Anti-Aging Masks
  • Berry Mask
    • 1 small handful of Blueberries
    • 1 small handful of Raspberries
    • 1 small handful of Blackberries
    • Mash all the berries together until the mixture has a thick juice consistency, apply to skin and leave for 15 minutes, rinse well with lukewarm water
  • Avocado Face Mask
    • Half an Avocado
    • 1 tbsp of Oats
    • Crush the avocado in a bowl, add oats and stir well, apply to face and leave for 10-12 minutes, wash face with warm water
